With homes stretched out through the valley and scattered on the surrounding hillsides, the San Rafael neighborhood of Sun Valley extends westward from H Street in downtown San Rafael all the way to the San Anselmo border. The Sun Valley / Forbes / Fairhills neighborhoods encompass the area directly northwest of downtown San Rafael.
Originally designated Neighborhood 13 in San Rafael's General Plan Map of Neighborhoods, Sun Valley is a family friendly community with lots to do. For casual get-togethers, the Sun Valley Park features a fully fenced playground, picnic facilities, and basketball and volleyball courts. The Sun Valley Racquet Club offers more social and recreational activities, including a fitness room, year round swimming, and tennis. The Racquet Club also hosts fun-filled family activities such as family bingo, dinners and holiday parties.
