Santa Venetia is a small San Rafael neighborhood located just east of the Marin Civic Center on North San Pedro Road. With open spaces to the south and east, Santa Venetia combines outdoor recreational opportunities with the practicality of urban conveniences, including a neighborhood market, a local school, and great accessibility for commuting.
In the beginning, the grand plan was for Santa Venetia to resemble Venice, Italy - complete with canals and gondolas and catering to the well-to-do. Before the project came to fruition, however, two World Wars intervened; times changed and homebuyers wanted modern homes with FHA or VA financing. Now, all that remains of the original dream is the name "Santa Venetia" and some street names. Today Santa Venetia is an affordable modern community with parks and playgrounds, open spaces - including Santa Venetia Marsh and San Pedro Mountain Preserve, and is within walking distance to shopping and the Civic Center Farmers Market.
