Upgrades Scheduled for Marin Civic Center & Northgate Mall in San Rafael

A good thing just keeps getting better -- in San Rafael at least. The Marin Civic Center is about to undergo renovation and first on the agenda is a revamped Farmers Market. Currently located in a parking lot, this popular event will find a permanent home in a new structure designed to accommodate vendors both indoors and out, offering protection from the elements, but retaining the current fun, carnival-like atmosphere. The vision includes expanding the Farmers Market to three days a week, creating space for a small restaurant, and including a wider variety of vendors.
The Farmers Market isn’t the only thing in San Rafael that is getting an overhaul. The Mall at Northgate is scheduled for what planners characterize as a major “reinvention” and will include courtyards and open-air dining areas along with a new European-style marketplace. While the traditional flagship favorites will remain, new retailers will enter the mix, offering a wide variety of services and amenities.
All of this is exciting news for San Rafael – Terra Linda real estate. The enhancement of the Civic Center facilities and the redesign of the Northgate Mall should have a positive impact on the local community in both the long and short run. For folks considering a move to San Rafael, the timing isn’t likely to get better. Rates are down, the Dixie School District is excellent, and the north San Rafael – Terra Linda area is undergoing several exciting renewal projects that look to bring good things to the neighborhood.
