As a parent in Marin County, I often find myself trying to figure out what to do with my kids on a rainy or really hot day. It can be quite difficult to find things to do indoors so I have decided to give a little guidance to other parents who have the same question! Below are some of my favorite things.........
Kids Gymnastics in Marin
San Rafael Gymnastics on Saturdays from 9:30 to 10:30 you can pay $10 per child to run, jump, balance, swing, climb, dance, and many more things that only a child could think of doing. I just started bringing my kids there on Saturdays and I could not believe that I had not done this before. It is nirvana for both children and parents alike.
Kids Bowling in Marin
Bowling in Marin on a rainy or hot day can also be a lot of fun. We ocassionally go bowling in San Rafael at Country Club Lanes. My kids like to use a special metal ramp for their bowling ball and they have actually even beaten me by doing this. We went recently with two 4 year old boys and a 2 1/2 year old girl and they had a lot of fun. When you are done bowling you can play video games at the arcade or eat pizza. It can kill a good 2 hours or so depending on the ages of your children. There is also great bowling in Petaluma .
Kids Museum and Indoor Play Activities
The Bay Area Discovery Museum is another great place if your kids are under 6-7 years old. This child's play museum under the shadows of the Golden Gate Bridge is in Sausalito. There are many indoor activity areas including a toddler play area, art studios, an area for free play on an indoor boat, wave workshop area, activity play area, cafe, and a children's theatre. It is also a great place to go on a sunny day since it has a huge outdoor play area too.
Play-Well Lego is a great place to drop in or sign your kids up for classes. This store in San Anselmo is great if you have children that are 5 and over. It is not a good place for really small children but it can be a wonderland for your little engineer. They have an activity and building area as well as a store where you can buy almost any Lego product available.
The Northgate Mall, the only indoor mall in Marin County, has historically been a great place to run your kids at the play area, get some lunch, and pick up a little something for mommy. It is currently going through a major $75,000,000+ renovation and it will be quite the happening place to spend your day once the construction is completed in November 2009. I have to say that it is still open to the public even though most of the stores are currently closed and your kids sure can run around untill their heart is content in wide open space. You can also take them to see a movie (which is currently open) in the mall at the Century Northgate Movie Theatre.
I hope you enjoy these suggestions and welcome other ideas and suggestions from parents in Marin County. Feel free to leave a comment regarding other rainy days tips you have for fellow parents in Marin.
