If you're thinking of buying a home in Marin County and want your children to attend the local public schools, understanding how the local public school system is ranked will help you decide which neighborhood is best for you.

The easiest and free way to get the data is to go to the Califorina Department of Education website and search the database for the information on the specific schools you're interested in.

To find the names of the schools and districts, follow these instructions:

1. Go to

2.Select the radio button public schools

3.Highlight the county and select search

The results page will give you a list of the school districts.  From there you can use the second set of directions to learn more about the schools.  You can also google the name of the school and look at the school website.

To find the specific data on each school follow these instructions:

1. Go to:  This is the California Department of Education Testing and Accountability page

2.Select Accountability Progress Reporting (APR) link.

3.Under API Reports, select School Level API Reports

4.Type in the first four or five letters of the name of the school

5.Notice the results page has a drop down menu for all the schools in CA that have the same first for or five letters

6.Select the proper school

7.Select the most recent Base API School Report, click on submit

The results page will show you the schools current ranking based on the data from the year you select.  Notice there is a brown menu bar where you can select other information about the school.

My knowledge about the local schools has helped many clients find wonderful homes in great school disctricts.
