Interior designers, stagers, framers and shop owners flock to the opening night of the Annual Fort Mason Holiday Print Sale to snap up incredible prints by professional Bay Area artists at bargain basement prices.  Linda Lieberman, noted artist, printmaker and long-time resident of the West End Neighborhood in San Rafael is one of the featured artists at this year's 40th Anniversary of the Print Sale. The sale opens Friday December 5th and runs through Sunday December 7th.  According to Linda, the Friday opening can get pretty wild, but come Saturday or Sunday it will be less hectic and you will find some fabulous prints for your home or office.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Linda recently in her home art studio for the Neighborhood Spotlight

Who will take care of Mittens and Socks when you're out of town for the holidays?  Not to be confused with Dogs who  love you and  want to be with you.  Dogs will gladly hop in the backseat and go anywhere you go.  Better yet, most motels and hotels would rather have a dog for a guest than actual people. Cats, on the other hand, are a horse of a different color, so to speak. They don't want to go with you and you don't want to go with them!  That's not to say you don't love your furry friends but they don't take kindly to change and travel. That's why the Cat's Cradle was invented.  Conveniently located in Central San Rafael, the Cat's Cradle, is a kitty camp du jour.  Think, new friends, feline companionship, trees to climb, toys to play with and many

It may not be sexy, but even the most die hard packrat can't help but get excited when the word FREE is put in front of Shredding & Recycling. This past Saturday I sponsored a Free Shredding & Electronics Recycling Event for friends, clients and my West End neighbors at the Marin Modern office in the heart of the West End Neighborhood of San Rafael.

At 9 a.m. people started to arrive by car and on foot with boxes of documents to be shredded along with old computers, phones, CD players...you name it!  Ron, with Integrity Shred, let everyone watch their documents, paper clips and binders go through the shredder and Mike from Renew Computers picked up the electronic equipment at the end of the day.

It was a great event and one I plan to repeat

Are you looking for a friendly and safe neighborhood with a sense of community, where old timers provide the history and newcomers the energy, enthusiasm and young families?  The West End Neighborhood in Central San Rafael has it in spades.  Last night we celebrated National Night Out at 4 different venues in the West End; from an ice cream social at Tamal Vista, Greenfield and the Circle at Santa Margarita to a Block Party Potluck on Viox and West Street.  The West End is a very eclectic neighborhood that spans both sides of the Miracle Mile from the "flats" to hillside properties, big homes to small and bungalows to Mediterranean and everything in-between.

Would you like to avoid the stress and inconvenience of coming to the Title Company during the 9-5 work week to sign a stack of loan papers and closing documents when refinancing, buying or selling a home?  Ask your real estate agent or the escrow officer at the Title Company, to arrange for a Mobile Notary to come to your home or place of work at a time that is convenient for you.  I did, and my clients loved it.

I recently had clients who chose to sign their closing papers with a Mobile Loan Signing Agent at their home due to logistical challenges in their work schedules.  It certainly was convenient but their situation was a little more complicated than the typical signing because there were multiple Trusts, 3 parties to the Trust and 2 Trustees.

Welcome to a great neighborhood!  326 Greenfield in San Anselmo has new owners who are thrilled with this art deco charmer.  I had the pleasure of representing the sellers. I listed and prepared their home for sale to get top dollar and it did!  Offered at $755,000 we had 3 very good offers and it sold for $790,000.

After raising two boys and loving their neighborhood and home for 22 years, the sellers were ready for the next phase in their life and purchased 102 Rafael Drive in San Rafael at the end of March.  They spent April, May and June getting 326 Greenfield ready, installing a new kitchen, refinishing hardwood floors, painting, making various upgrades and getting their presale inspections done. It was Charm Central when it hit the market

San Anselmo Art Deco Charmer.  This home features 2 beds/1 bath with a brand new kitchen, stainless appliances, subway tile, butcher block counters, and a view to the beautifully landscaped garden and flagstone patio.

A rounded archway between the living room and dining room adds character along with the old fashioned front porch, refinished hardwood floors, high-end wood dual paned windows and fireplace.  Updated bathroom features a double sink and plenty of counter and cupboard space.

The full basement offers so much potential with storage space galore.  There's a bonus room that is ideal for a playroom, office or guest room plus plenty of room for a workshop and a one-car garage.  The driveway can easily accommodate 3 cars.

Are you casting around for a place to retire?  For many, Marin is too darn expensive and the equity tied up in a home is necessary to fund a comfortable retirement.  But where to move? That's the million dollar question for many.  Yes, you could throw a dart at a map but most people will be more thoughtful when it comes to a major life change. Some questions to consider:

  • What is the cost of housing in areas you are considering moving? Do you want a single family home or are you looking for a more carefree lifestyle?
  • Do you have friends and family who live in the area and does that matter to you?
  • Do you want to stay in California or are you casting a wider net?
  • Is being within a couple of hours of a major airport important?
  • Amenities - golf,

If you're a procrastinator and have waited until the last minute to buy Mom a gift. don't despair.  While biking down Tunstead in San Anselmo early this morning I was reminded of a "hidden" gem, Rockflowerpaper in San Anselmo.  Yes, I know....what the heck does a store with a name like that sell!  All I can say is that it sells lots of beautiful things that Mom will love at Outlet prices. Sure enough when I returned to Rockflowerpaper later today armed with my wallet and ready to buy a couple of gifts, a nice guy with his unruly 1 year old Golden Retriever walked in asking for help with a Mother's Day gift.

Katie Smith, owner of Rockflowerpaper was a designer for Mulberry Neckwear in San Rafael for 20 years before opening her boutique in San
