I have had numerous rental properties in 3 Bay Area counties over the last 12 years and I have come up with a short list of dos and don'ts when buying rental properties that I'd like to share with you. This is just my opinion and I am sure others have different thoughts.  Understanding that owning rental property is an interactive investment is most important.  Even if you plan on having a property management company help you it is still a hands on investment that will require your time, energy and money.

1. Tax benefits and rate of return: Check with your CPA about how this property will or won't benefit you tax wise. What rate of return is a realistic expectation? How does this real estate investment compare to other investments you could make with

There are many different types of mortgage financing options, each geared to serving certain goals. None are bad, though it is sometimes a difficult task to choose the one that is best suited to your particular needs. Adjustable Rate Mortgages (ARMs) and their interest only cousins are often maligned and passed over without consideration, but may be the best option for anyone planning to sell or refinance within a shorter timeframe. But, with long-term rates at historic lows, if there’s any chance of remaining in a home for the long haul, a fixed rate mortgage might be considered cheap insurance.

Once a client has settled on a fixed rate mortgage, I am often asked which option is best for them, a 30-year or a 15-year fixed loan? This begs

36 Villa Avenue, San Rafael, CA 94901 sits on the North/West end of the prestigious Dominican neighborhood in San Rafael. Amongst the multi-million dollar mansions, 36 Villa is an unassuming 3-bedroom/2 bath home set back from the street and aching for attention. Purchase for $479,000 makes this fixer a great buy.

My clients are super excited to tackle this cute 1970's property and make it a cozy home for their eldest son and his adorable girlfriend.

Father and son are going to don their tool belts and do some much-needed upgrades and repairs on this sweet house.

Dominican College founded by the Dominican sisters in 1917 gives this area of San Rafael its name. One of the most beautiful neighborhoods in San Rafael with old growth trees lining

Looking for something fun to do this weekend?  Marin Open Studios is a community-wide event that celebrates over 260 artists who open their studios to the public for two weekends.  The kick off for Open Studios starts Saturday with wine and nibbles from 5-8 p.m. at the Town Center in Corte Madera.  You'll meet the artists, get to enjoy one of their works of art that will be on display and pick up an Artist Guide to plan your own Open Studio art tour.

Artist, Davis Perkins, who resides in San Rafael's West End Neighborhood, was featured recently in a Marin IJ article as a precursor to the Open Studio event. Davis lives up the hill from me and is a fantastic landscape artist and a great neighbor.  As a plein-air artist, he started painting when

I am so happy for my clients whom I just helped purchase their first home located in a great San Anselmo neighborhood. We had to make a strong pre-emptive offer to get this house because this price band in the Marin Real Estate market is very hot right now. We still had to compete with another offer. But ultimately, I was able to negotiate a good deal for everybody.

Set on a picture-perfect, tree-lined street, this charming three bedroom/two bathroom home features hardwood floors, a bright breakfast room, bonus room, as well as lovely molding and detail found in many 1920's San Francisco homes. With a flat yard that boasts mature magnolia and fruit trees, a deck off the kitchen which transitions to a patio in the backyard and an

Marin County, CA is known for it's high-end luxury properties in cities like Tiburon, Belvedere, Ross, Sausalito, Kentfield and Mill Valley but rarely do we associate San Rafael, CA with exclusive luxury properties.
