Golf, horseback riding, meditation, cycling, and hiking in the redwoods; the San Geronimo Valley has something for everyone. Including the hamlets of San Geronimo, Forest Knolls, and Lagunitas, the San Geronimo Valley is an eclectic community, and is home to some of the more interesting public schools in Marin County.
Public Schools in San Geronimo
Two public school districts provide educational services to students living in the San Geronimo Valley. Lagunitas School District is the home district for the elementary and middle schools. Most high school students from the San Geronimo Valley area attend Sir Francis Drake High School in the Tamalpais Union High School District.
Lagunitas School District serves the San Geronimo Valley, which includes the small towns of Forest Knolls, Lagunitas, Woodacre, and San Geronimo. There are two schools in the district. Although they are public schools, the elementary grades are not the traditional classrooms that are generally found throughout most of the state.
Tamalpais Union High School District provides secondary school education to students coming from ten elementary districts in Marin County, including the Lagunitas School District. It includes three comprehensive high schools, all of which have been designated as California Distinguished Schools, and two alternative schools. Students from the Lagunitas School District attend Sir Francis Drake High School in San Anselmo.

Lagunitas School and San Geronimo Valley School combine to offer a variety of programs to students in grades Kindergarten through 8th. A semi-departmentalized program is provided to middle school children, while students in the elementary grades are offered three different programs, all of which are taught in multi-aged classrooms. Although the schools are public, and adhere to the California educational guidelines, there are three philosophies represented: a Kindergarten through 5th grade Montessori school, an Open Classroom Kindergarten through 6th grade program, and a Waldorf-inspired primary school.

Sir Francis Drake High School is an award winning school. It is a California Distinguished School and was identified by the U.S. Department of Education as a New American High School. Students coming from Lagunitas, Nicasio, and Ross Valley Districts attend Sir Francis Drake. The curriculum emphasizes a college preparatory program, but provides for all levels of interest and abilities. The County of Marin has certified Sir Francis Drake High School as a Green Business.

Tamiscal High School is a small independent high school within the Tamalpais Union High School District. The Tamiscal curriculum offers a program that allows a high school diploma, but not necessarily the courses needed to gain entrance into a university. University entry courses such as foreign language and upper level lab sciences must be taken elsewhere.
