Kentfield Schools

When making the decision to purchase property in the Marin community of Kentfield, a primary consideration for many families will be the schools.  Kentfield provides very good choices with its public and private schools.  Kentfield public schools benefit from active community support, which includes the Kentfield Schools Foundation, a nonprofit public organization committed to the support of education at Bacich Elementary and Kent Middle School.  The College of Marin also has a campus in Kentfield.

Public Schools in Kentfield

The Kentfield area is served by two public school districts; Kentfield School District for elementary and middle school, and Tamalpais Union High School District, for high school students who will attend Redwood High School in Larkspur.

Kentfield School District is a small district with two schools serving the communities of Kentfield and Greenbrae.  The total enrollment of Kentfield District is just under 1000.

Tamalpais Union High School District provides secondary school education to students coming from ten elementary districts in

Marin County, including the Kentfield School District.  It includes three comprehensive high schools, all of which have been designated as California Distinguished Schools, and two alternative schools.

Bacich Elementary

Grades: K-4

Bacich Elementary School is a California Distinguished School.  In 2006 its students scored an API of 947, which places Bacich in the top 10% of schools with a similar grade range in the state of California.  Its rank among schools with similar demographics is 9 (on a scale of 1 to 10).

Kent Middle School

Grades: 5-8

Kent Middle School has been selected a California Distinguished School twice, once in 1990 and again in 1992.  With a 2006 API of 914, it ranks in the top 10% of California schools with a similar grade configuration.  Most students graduating from Kent Middle School will attend RedwoodHigh School.

Redwood High School

Congratulations to Redwood High School upon being named a California

Distinguished School for 2007!  This is the fourth time Redwood High has earned this award.  Redwood High School offers a rigorous college preparatory curriculum with Advanced Placement and Honors courses, and includes French, Spanish, and Latin language classes.  Redwood High also has an ROP program. 

Redwood High School is attended by students from Larkspur, Kentfield, Reed Union, and Ross School Districts.  Gavin Newsom, mayor of San Francisco; Gary Fisher, one of the inventors of the mountain bike; and Robin Williams all attended Redwood High School.

Tamiscal High School is a small independent high school within the Tamalpais Union High School District.  The Tamiscal curriculum offers a program that allows a high school diploma, but not necessarily the courses needed to gain entrance into a university.  University entry courses such as foreign language and upper level lab sciences must be taken elsewhere.

Marin Catholic High School is a coeducational college preparatory school with a student body of over 700 students.  The diverse student body is drawn from four Bay Area counties.  Marin Catholic High offers honors courses and advanced placement classes in addition to a curriculum that includes foreign language, community service, and religious instruction.

 

The College of Marin is located in Kentfield.
